OTO is a London based, design-led architectural and interior design practice, founded by Tamiko Onozawa. Our work is guided by contemporary design intelligence. We work from first principles—light, proportion, colour, materiality and technology—to create coherent spaces with clarity, comfort and functionality, while respecting craft and design heritage. Our design process is grounded in integrity and honesty, responding to how a space is used and how it should feel. We assemble project teams to suit each brief, collaborating closely with specialists, including engineers, craftspeople and artists.
Creative director Tamiko Onozawa worked in Tokyo and Paris for Jean-Michel Wilmotte before moving to the UK to join Richard Rogers Partnership (now RSHP). Over 15 years at RSHP, she held key design roles on multiple award-winning international projects, building expertise across architecture, interior design and bespoke furniture.
She has since been appointed by leading developers and further refined her high-end residential and commercial interior architecture experience through major London projects including Burlington Gate, Holland Park Villas, and Cheyne Terrace. Building on this background, Tamiko brings an integrated approach that aligns architecture and interiors, responding to context while delivering quietly distinctive, long-lasting design.
Alongside her practice, she has lectured internationally, including in Japan and Jordan, through programmes supported by the British Council. Her writing and contributions have appeared in GA, AERA and Asahi publications, and she has exhibited at invited events including Out of the Box, All Visual Arts for Artangel. She has served as a councillor and committee member at The Chelsea Arts Club in London.
She is a pianist and music composer, and has written music for galleries, exhibitions and a dance company. For her the process of composition and design influence each other.
She speaks fluent Japanese, English, basic Italian and Spanish.
